We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant for our Bloomington, Minnesota office. This role is ideal for a tax professional who enjoys preparing and reviewing complex returns, building trusted client relationships, researching tax issues, and supporting the development of junior team members. We are also open to considering high-potential candidates who may have fewer years of experience but demonstrate strong aptitude, professionalism, learning agility, and commitment to growth.

Position Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for managing individual and business tax engagements, preparing and reviewing tax returns, conducting tax research, responding to taxing authority notices, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and delivering exceptional client service.

This role serves as a key resource for clients and team members, leading complex engagements while helping develop the technical skills of junior staff.

What You’ll Do

Tax Compliance & Preparation

  • Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, nonprofits, and other entities.
  • Prepare high-quality workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Review financial statements, records, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure clients remain compliant with applicable tax laws and filing requirements.
  • Calculate estimated tax payments and assist with tax projections.
  • Maintain accurate and organized client records.

Tax Planning & Advisory

  • Research tax issues and provide practical recommendations.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and strategies aligned with client goals.
  • Prepare tax forecasts and planning projections.
  • Assist clients with year-end tax planning initiatives.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and emerging industry trends.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to assigned clients.
  • Lead larger and more complex tax engagements.
  • Communicate proactively regarding deadlines, requirements, and tax matters.
  • Build long-term client relationships through exceptional service and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure clients receive integrated solutions.

Tax Research & Audit Support

  • Respond to IRS, state, and local taxing authority notices and inquiries.
  • Assist with audits and examinations.
  • Conduct technical tax research and document conclusions.
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately while recommending practical solutions.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to less experienced team members.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional excellence.
  • Represent Community CPA professionally in all client and business interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field.
  • Generally, 4 or more years of progressively responsible tax or public accounting experience preferred; candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate strong technical aptitude, professionalism, learning agility, and growth potential.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
  • Experience working with professional tax and accounting software.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Successful completion of a background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license, Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, or active progress toward CPA licensure.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Experience with UltraTax CS, Accounting CS, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Financial Edge, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with complex individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, or nonprofit tax returns.
  • Experience mentoring or training staff.
  • Bilingual or multilingual language skills.
